Upcoming Activities at Our Church.

Upcoming Events:

  • Welcome Potluck for our new minister on Sunday, September 5th after the church services.

  • A good cause and a good coffee. Coffee Sales are an on-going fundraiser for our Church.  When you purchase our Fair Trade, Organic, Shade Grown coffee you also support coffee farmers, the environment, and wildlife.  Please give your order to FayEllen (forms available at the back of the church and by the coffee downstairs).  Enjoy either “West Coast Roasted” or the decaffeinated “Toothless Dog” with fellowship after the service.
  • “Coffee With a Difference” will resume on Wednesday mornings at 9:30am this fall on September 8, 2010, and will be at Ethel Robinson’s at 31 Farrow St. This is a bible study based on the Upper Room booklet, and is a great way to meet others in the United Church community.  Everyone is welcome.

General News and Announcements:

  • United Church Response to Flooding in Pakistan: Update as of August 10, 2010. Click on www.united-church.ca

Pakistan continues to struggle in response to massive flooding, which has affected millions of its citizens. The United Nations says the number of people affected by flooding over the past two weeks is 13.8 million — more than the combined total of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, and the 2010 Haiti earthquake. Continuing monsoon rains have washed away roads and bridges and are hampering relief efforts. The rains also sometimes make it impossible for relief and rescue helicopters to reach stranded communities.
The United Church of Canada, together with other members of the global ACT Alliance , is continuing to monitor and respond to the crisis. As a result of donations made by its members, the United Church sent $25,000 to ACT immediately following initial news of the crisis, and has now sent an additional $40,000 also to be used for ACT’s work on the ground. ACT members in Pakistan are working diligently to deliver assistance including food, water, tents, kitchen kits, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, emergency medical care. The United Church is also exploring Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
The United Church will receive donations to its Emergency Response Fund and channel these through the ACT Alliance to provide a coordinated response with other church organizations. You may contribute by making your cheque or local donation out to Kitimat First United Church, and putting Pakistan on the memo line.

Donations:

  • Please bring your Super Valu receipts, Campbell Soup labels, and old prescription glasses and leave them in the containers at the back of the church.

Allergies:

  • There is a growing number of our congregants who are allergic to strong fragrances.  Some are affected by perfumes and colognes, while others have difficulty with flowers or scented candles. Reactions can vary from stuffy noses and scratchy throats, through to anaphylaxis. We need your help in making our church a FRAGRANCE FREE ZONE making us a welcoming and safe haven to all.
